Wine
Turkey Flat Mataro is a rare example of unblended Australian Mataro. Commonly used as a blending component, Turkey Flat believes the variety has the legs to stand on its own.
A late ripening variety, Mataro thrives in the hot, dry Barossa Valley summers; in fact, the Barossa is one of the few areas in Australia that allows the small, thick skinned berries to ripen fully.
The fruit is open fermented, then transferred to 50% new French oak barrels selected to enhance the wine's fruit flavours and structure. The wine develops over 6-9 months, with malolactic fermentation occurring spontaneously.
Dark red, Turkey Flat Mataro is a savoury, rustic wine. Its rich spices and fruit flavours remain grounded by a backbone of dusty tannins. Cellaring potential is seven years.
